margaret swedene, preschool Assistant
Bio: Mrs. Swedene, or Ms. Margaret, as she is affectionately called at school, is from Buffalo, NY and moved to Sault Sainte Marie in 2002 when her husband, Jason, started a faculty position at LSSU.
Ms. Margaret earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing from Binghamton University in New York. After moving to the Soo, she decided to be a stay at home mom and for 17 years she raised her 6 children. During that time, she volunteered at St. Mary’s Catholic School where all her children attended.
Ms. Margaret felt right at home substitute teaching in the St. Mary’s preschool program and was very honored to take a position as the preschool assistant teacher in 2018. Ms. Margaret teaches Catechesis of the Good Shepherd at St. Joseph’s Church and brings this program to the preschoolers at St. Mary’s. These hands on lessons teach the students about God’s love for them and helps them build a relationship with Jesus.
When not at school, Ms. Margaret loves to spend time with family, do yoga, and read. She volunteers for Hospice of the EUP, coordinating Silent Hearts’ pregnancy loss bereavement program, and she is a certified Bereavement Doula.
