Happy Friday, SMCS Families!

Thank you to all of our families for donating non-perishable food items for St. Joseph’s Food Pantry.  Thank you to our 5th graders who walked the building collecting the boxes of food then delivering them to Fr. Romeo’s vehicle.  Thank you to Fr. Romeo for taking the goods to the pantry.

We had popcorn today to make up for missing it on the snow day during Catholic Schools Week.  Thank you to Mrs. Hall and Mrs. Miller for helping me make, bag, and deliver the popcorn to our classrooms.

Our second grade students whose families attend St. Mary’s Parish will make their First Reconciliation tomorrow.  Please keep these students in your prayers on their special day.

March is reading month.  SMCS will be reading Wishtree by Katherine Applegate as a read aloud in each classroom, Kindergarten-8th.  Parents’ guide to what is in the book, according to Common Sense Media, has Wishtree rated 5/5 for educational value, 5/5 for positive messages, 5/5 for positive role models & representation, 1/5 for violence/scariness, and 0/5 for language.

Included during reading month, we will have trivia questions each morning.  Students may turn in their answer on a provided strip of paper each day, students who answer correctly will then have their answer placed in a bin, and at the end of the day one of the answer slips will be drawn and the answer will be announced as well as the name of the student who answered it.  A picture will be taken of the student and the photo will go on the “Correct Answer Wall of Fame”.  We are excited about reading month and this fun little ed-venture.

Tuesday, March 2nd, is photo re-take day.  Any student who needs to have their photo retaken, or maybe for the first time due to missing the first school photo shoot, may do so on Tuesday.  Students who are having their picture taken may wear color clothes to school but will change into their school uniform once the photo is complete.  It is NOT a color day.

As you sell your tickets, please consider turning them in along with checks/cash.  There is a bin labeled “office” in the south entrance (playground side).  When you are buzzed in, just indicate you are dropping off tickets and funds, then place them in the bin.  Someone from the office will remove them straight away.  Thank you.

Tickets may be sold after Mass at various parishes!  Please find the list of places and times to sign-up to sell.  You do not have to be Catholic to sell after a Mass!

Amazon Smile
Online shopping during COVID-19 has doubled.  Amazon.com accounts for nearly 40% of all online shopping.  Have you purchased anything on Amazon recently? These Amazon purchases can help raise money for St Mary’s Catholic School!   See these directions for how to set up smile.amazon.com to donate directly to our school.

SMCS participates in SCRIP, a program that helps fund the school by purchasing gift cards to popular stores.  The updated fillable SCRIP Order Sheet may be used to place your SCRIP cards order.  If you have any questions, please email Theresa Miller at tmiller@eupschools.org or call the school office. 906-635-6141
