Happy Friday, SMCS Families! As you now see, the weekly e-letter will be sent at the end of the week.
We have adjusted to the new routine Phase 4 brought. Daily lunch in the classroom took some tweaking as we figured the delivery of the hot lunch program, garbage collection/removal, wiping and disinfecting of desks, and vacuuming classrooms. SMCS is blessed with a great team!
Brrrr. It’s getting cold outside. Please be sure your child is prepared for outside play. Students will be going outside when weather permits. Now is the time for jackets, hats, mittens/gloves, and very soon, winter boots and snow pants.
School Lunch Program Update
Free lunch has been extended for the entire 2020-2021 school year! Please see here regarding this news.
2020-2021 Candidates For PRIESTHOOD Diocese of Marquette
You should find in your child’s backpack today a mini poster from Fr Ben Hass, Vocations Director. The mini poster shows the men who are studying for our diocese during the 2020-2021 school year. Fr Ben asked the posters be given to every student and asked our students and families to pray for our seminarians and for vocations.
School photos have arrived. You should find the photos in your child’s backpack today. If you wish the photo to be taken again, or your child missed picture day, there will be a photo retake day. We do not have the date for retakes yet, however once we do, we will be sure to let you know.
Parent/Teacher Conferences are November 12th and 13th. Please find the parent/teacher flyer here for further information regarding choosing the day and time you would like to meet, as well as your conference preference – in person or via phone. Kindly complete the form – one form per family with student name(s) listed – then either return it to school with your child or email it to Mrs. Miller – firstname.lastname@example.org. We do our best to accommodate families with multiple children to attend back-to-back conferences. The notice indicating your confirmed conference day and time will be included within your child’s report card on November 10th.
Please continue signing up to assist with recess. We need help with monitoring recess, especially Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays. As always, thank you very much to those folks who have been able to help! Please see below for further information and the link to sign up.
WAYS TO SUPPORT ST MARY’S CATHOLIC SCHOOLAmazon Smile
Online shopping during COVID-19 has doubled. Amazon.com accounts for nearly 40% of all online shopping. Have you purchased anything on Amazon recently? These Amazon purchases can help raise money for St Mary’s Catholic School! See these directions for how to set up smile.amazon.com to donate directly to our school.
SMCS participates in SCRIP, a program that helps fund the school by purchasing gift cards to popular stores. The fillable SCRIP Order Sheet may be used to place your SCRIP cards order. If you have any questions, please email Theresa Miller at email@example.com or call the school office. 906-635-6141
Student Absences: Reminder – if your child(ren) will be absent, please contact the school. Either call the office, leave a message if necessary, or email the office/your child’s teacher. We need to know your child is safe and to not expect him/her at school that day.
Recess: Please click here to sign up to help with monitoring recess. Recess runs from 11:20-12:40 Monday – Friday. The booking page is password protected for the safety of our students; please do not share it.
ALL RECESS VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A DHS BACKGROUND CHECK, A BACKGROUND CHECK THROUGH THE DIOCESE OF MARQUETTE, AND HAVE COMPLETED THE VIRTUS (PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN) ONLINE TRAINING BEFORE VOLUNTEERING. If there is not proof of both background checks and completed VIRTUS training on file in the school office, you will not be allowed to help. Please contact the office if you still need to complete the two background checks and VIRTUS training.
Anyone who enters the building to help with recess will be required to check their temperature and complete and sign a health screening form. There is a designated health screening area in the entryway on the Armory Pl (playground) side. Please wear a mask, buzz into the building, sanitize hands, check your temperature, complete and sign health screening form, place completed form in the locked drop box, re-sanitize hands. Please maintain social distancing.
There are three mid-day recesses each day. We ask you to plan on staying for all three recesses; total duration one hour and twenty minutes; 11:20 a.m. -12:40 p.m.
Recess times are as follows (ten minute discretionary time is for staggering students leaving/entering lunchroom, building, and sanitizing eating areas between each lunch period).
