Our first two days of school went well!  Thank you so much for your patience during morning drop-off and afternoon pick-up.  Just a note and friendly reminder to families using the drop-off lane on Armory Pl in the morning, please be aware of vehicles pulling into our parking lot to drop off our youngest students, our preschoolers.  No problems so far, but let’s work together to keep it this way; please look out for each other!

Fr. Nick Thompson celebrates his birthday today.  Happy Birthday, Fr. Nick!

Cleaning and Sanitizing
To assist with keeping our school as clean and healthy as possible, we have purchased HEPA filter air purifiers for each classroom as well as ultra violet sanitizing lights for each floor.  The UV lights are being used after school hours when rooms are empty.

Classroom Sound Systems
As we prepared to open the school we realized teachers would be speaking behind masks, making it more difficult for students to hear them.  To help with this, we decided to upgrade our existing classroom microphones as well as purchase new microphone sound systems for two classrooms that did not have systems.

Lanyards
An additional preparation for school opening revolved around ways to keep student masks from being dropped or lost.  To assist with this, we purchased mask lanyards for each student and adult in the building.  Snack/Lunch/Recess should prove a bit easier when masks are removed.  With the lanyard, a mask can hang loosely or it could be tucked into shirts.

HASA
Both the above mentioned purchases were made possible by our Home and School Association (HASA).  A big shout out of gratitude to HASA.  Please click here to see a letter to families from HASA.

Running Club
Due to the current restrictions, we are not having our usual SMCS Cross Country Team.  However, there is still an opportunity for our students in grades 4th-8th to participate in a running club.  Please find a note here from our coaches.

OptionC Parent Alert System
SMCS uses a parent alert system to send out notifications and reminders to our school families.  When there is inclement weather and the school is closed, the notification will come from OptionC.  Please complete the parent alert form and return it to the school as soon as possible.  Doing so will provide accurate contact information and let us know the method by which you would like the alert to reach you – email, text message, and/or phone call.  You will find the OptionC form here or please look for it in your child’s backpack.

Student Absences
Reminder – if your child/ren will be absent, please contact the school.  Either call the office, leave a message if necessary, or email the office/your child’s teacher.  We need to know your child is safe and to not expect him/her at school that day.

Recess
Please click here to sign up to help with monitoring recess.  Recess runs from 11:20-12:40 Monday – Friday.  The booking page is password protected for the safety of our students, please do not share it.

ALL RECESS VOLUNTEERS MUST HAVE A DHS BACKGROUND CHECK, A BACKGROUND CHECK THROUGH THE DIOCESE OF MARQUETTE, AND HAVE COMPLETED THE VIRTUS (PROTECTING GOD’S CHILDREN) ONLINE TRAINING BEFORE VOLUNTEERING.  If there is not proof of these background checks and completed VIRTUS training on file in the school office, you will not be allowed to help.  Please contact the office if you still need to complete the two background checks and VIRTUS training.

Anyone who enters the building to help with recess will be required to check their temperature and complete and sign a health screening form.  There is a designated health screening area in the entryway on the Armory Pl (playground) side.  Please wear a mask, buzz into the building, sanitize hands, check your temperature, complete and sign health screening form, place completed form in the locked drop box, re-sanitize hands.  Please maintain socials distancing.
